ADJECTIVE AND ADVERB



ADJECTIVE
Definition: An adjective is a word that describes, identifies, modifies, or quantifies something (a noun or a pronoun). In English, an adjective usually comes before the noun it pertains to. Adjectives can be classified into many categories. In English, adjectives are generally used in the order :
1. Determiner => a, the, one, two, three, some, many, much
2. Opinion => good, bad, beautiful, clever, expensive, cheap, friendly
3. Size => big, small, little, large
4. Shape => round, circle, square, slim, fat
    Age => new, old, ancient
    Temperature => hot, cold, warm
5. Color => red, blue, black, white
    Original => Japanese, American, Balinese, Javanese
6. Material => woolen, wooden, plastic, iron
7. Noun => jacket, box, car, chair

Example:
1. One Adjective
  • Bob is reading thick book.
  • She is smart girl.
  • I have an expensive bag.
  • He has a fast car.
  • This is hot day.
2. Two Adjective
  • Roses are beautiful red flowers.
  • She wears short new dress.
  • Crocodile has sharp big teeth.
  • He is cleaning dirty empty box.
  • The students write interesting long story.
3. More Than Two Adjective
  • They buy a ugly Japanese wooden doll.
  • She string up a big green paper flower.
  • He save small old black chair.
  • My young brother find a new red woolen jacket.
  • My sister has fragrant clean white skin.

ADVERB
Definition: An adverb is a word that describes an action, telling "how," "when," "where," "how often," or "how much" an action took place. Adverbs often end in ly. Some adverbs are: easily, warmly, quickly, mainly, freely, often, and unfortunately.

Example:
1. Adverb of Frequency
  • I always eat rice.
  • She sometimes go to library.
  • My boyfriend often brings me a bucket of flowers.
  • I take a bath twice a day.
  • He never eat durian.
2. Adverb of Time
  • I'm going to tidy my room tomorrow.
  • I saw Sally today.
  • I will call you later.
  • I have to leave now.
  • I saw that movie last year.
3. Adverb of Place
  • I saw him was standing there.
  • She works in Jakarta.
  • Come in!
  • I think I have seen him somewhere.
  • My mother is on his flight to Yogyakarta.
4. Adverb of Manner

  • My mother got up early and cooked breakfast quickly.
  • She spoke softly.
  • She carried out the homework slowly.
  • He drives carefully.
  • The rain came suddenly without little warning.
